A man I know was once described as "dead." The reason is that he didn't read. Think that's bunk, read on.
The story goes, that he's a wanna-be cult leader trying to indoctrinate the youth of white county, tennessee into taking the red pill. He told me once that he doesn't read because that is someone else's reality trying to infringe upon his worldview (only closer to the grunts of a caveman as he stated it).
My point now isn't to admonish against this statement, but to strenthen the concept that words define our world in more than a dictionary sence of the word.
When you think you think in words. Learning new words lets you experience the words in a new way. The primary way to do this is to read. So if you are not reading, you do not experience anything new. You are not growing, living. You are dead.

The old man is sort of right. Have you ever heard of the saphir whorf hypothesis? (Forgive the spelling). It basically states that language affects our reality. Not that you shouldn't read, because you shoud. And stay in school too. -n stuff.

Actually yes, you told me about it dork :) My point was that if you don't learn any new words or ideas, you don't have any new ways to experience reality. Aside from drugs... or schizophrenia in his case.

This is a clear example of what happens when rednecks and hippies have sex.
I wonder if he can read how much his welfare check is made out for each month?
And doesn't it seem odd that he was in a card shop, where people read comic books or play Magic and D & D? Maybe he couldn't read the sign out front, and there-for mistook "Card Shop" for "Free Meth".

This is about the old man, not Stubbs. Of course the welfare theory may make sence, seeing as how I've only seen about $30 worth of transactions occur there that made him money. And I used to sell him crap all the time. Where does his money come from?

Oh, the old man. That makes ense now... That's why even the kids in middle school could beat him at Magic: TG back 10 years ago: he couldn't read the cards.
And he is able to save money because he only takes a bath once a week (and even then, he only changes the bath-water once a month).
Of course, in White Co. if you are a stinky old man on welfare that can't read and hangs around with a crowd who's median age is 15, somehow people think you are a wise, prophetic leader...
BTW, did he ever get that time machine built?

*makes sense.
And why the heck doesn't this place have a dang EDIT POST option?!
Chuck - 3/08/2005 09:55:00 PM
No, he's moved on, apparantly he has a new "theme" every few years. He's been on this Matrix kick for a while now. He's trying to "free" everyone's mind. Hell, last time we spoke he called me Agent Smith.

I wonder how that stinky old guy is doing now?
Chuck - 3/11/2006 10:04:00 PM
