Though I try not to stoop, over a year ago I made a rash decision to stop work on the Oliver's Army web page. This was based on a single email where the lead singer,
Ryan, asked directly, "Are you working our web page still?" or something to that effect. I interpreted his tone as being snotty, and therefore quickly fired back that I was not.
The back-story of this was that I had agreed to do their web page while a friend of mine was still involved in the band. After their separation I was asked to stay on. I agreed, being unemployed and needing to hone my "skillz" more. Months passed and our communication became base, a list of needs to be addressed by me, the webmaster.
Tonight I caught up with Oliver's Army. Ryan most graciously bestowed their EP to my possession, the first transaction where I received something in our relationship. Maybe a compliment peppered here and there would have sufficed. Maybe that would have assisted in the interpretation of the tone of the email. And while I appreciate bluntness, my ego still needs to be stroked.
This is not to say that Ryan, or the other members of Oliver's Army aren't great people. They are.
I just wanted to illustrate how we can try to be better people by examining the how both parties were wrong.
