The reason I voted for Kerry 2005/03/24 4 comments
The reason I voted for Kerry was to prevent Bush from getting in office again.
Bush started a war in Iraq that I feel wasn't necessary.
Bush has taken what I feel is a dangerous stance toward foreign policy. I may be wrong, as it certainly hasn't taken the worst case scenario that I had envisioned a few years ago.
Bush is a puppet of the oil industry, which through sheer nature of resource acquisition is warlike.
And last, but not least, I don't believe in trickle down economics.

By having voted for Kerry doesn't mean that I agree with all the things he has said. I was suprised to hear that he backed faith based initiatived, which you already know my position on.
Unfortunately, it was a question of "Who would screw up my country the least."
Looking at Kerry's background, coming from money based in food and farm, he seemed like his interests would be much less warlike. While he might not have been consistant about his intentions for the war in Iraq, I don't think he would have made things any worse.
Pick a point, or many points. If it's too out of hand I'll narrow it down.

i also voted kerry, for the same reasons...
plus, the fact that he looks so much like that asshole scientist from Re-Animator made me powerless, i had to vote for him just so i could imagine his head detached and laying in a dissection pan thing any time he was on the news....
i hope you have the slightest idea what im talking about...

Bah, I really didn't mean to start a whole Bush vs. Kerry '04 issue, seeing has the whole country has pretty much beaten that to death.

I personally wouldn't just cast a spiteful ABB (Anybody But Bush) vote, no matter who the Democrats fielded.

The only primary candidate that made a connection with the people was Dean, and we see how that went. In hindsight, it's a shame Wesley Clark wasn't able to get the nomination. I think he could have done the deed if he was a little more charismatic (and had the $$$). I liked Lieberman, Dean, and Gephardt also.

I applaud the fact that you acknowledge the inconsistancy Kerry had over a 12 month period on the war in Iraq. Most Kerry voters refused to admit that, at least through the election.

I was pointing out the Kerry position on faith-based initiatives to again reiterate, if you are going to waste your vote, the independants would not only appriciate it most, you'd probably find as many if not more issues you support them on as you do the Dems. Too bad the 3rd parties get shut out by the Republicans and Democrats, and in '04 the liberal media too (afraid nader might be a "spoiler").

But anyway, Kerry just didn't have that X-factor he needed to get elected. Pretty much it was "I'm a liberal, and I'm not Bush." Very motivating.

You can thank the fact that he had more money (after mortgaging his mansion at one point) to out-campaign and out-last his opponents in the primaries as why it ended up a WTF ticket. Based upon the Dem's positions on the issues in the end, it should have been Dean. He had passion at least.

BTW, did you ever check out the "This Land" parody w/ Bush and Kerry? Classic.

Seriously you guys.... What's the democrat's plan? What's the democratic plan to stop terrorists? Show me a democrat with a spine that follows what he believes instead of polls and I may think about voting for one.

John Kerry was the "Bob Dole" of the democratic party. Being "your turn" to run for president shouldn't be how the party picks it's runners.
