It's hard to let down my defences long enough to see I'm wrong. It's as likely that I'll be forgiven as it is I'll be attacked. So I build the wall a little higher.

Why do you have to let down your defenses to see your wrong??
Are you saying it's hard to admit to someone else you were wrong, or something along those lines?
And on a side note, I meant to tell you the other day I really enjoyed your homemade wine!

Your should be you're, as in "you are." It's intended to show that one cannot admit they're wrong as long as their egos tell them they didn't do anything. To get to the point where you're willing to drop your ego is difficult, it's the point where you're willing to accept that you may be wrong.
It's a general statement, applying to nothing in specific about my life at this time.
Thanks, I drink a few glasses of my wine tonight also. :)
