Cummins Falls is situated just inside of Jackson County Tennessee. You can find your way there from Cookeville quite easily and is probably closer than Burgess Falls. I hear that there is a path leading to the bottom of the falls. I didn't have much time to explore today, but I think I'll go back soon and find out.
Directions: From Cookeville take 12th St west out of town and take a right onto Cummins Mill Road. There is a small parking area on the left side of the road just before the bridge.

Love the pictures here, C. I snagged the top row second from the right as a desktop. Definitely need to check this pretty place out. God I love fall. Wish my &$*#%*&!! heel would heal (heh) so I could hike again.

Looks to be a beautiful location! What's the geology there? Are those layers of shale, or something else? What formation does this represent, and what age? Any fossils?
Regardless, you have some great photos. I particularly like the panorama (last photo on the right). With any luck, I'll get out this weekend and get some use of my camera.

The lovely steps that you see at the edge of the falls are surely shale. I think there is a layer of harder (?) limestone that the stream flows on until it is broken by the falls. The layers of strata in picture 8 I'm pretty sure are also shale. As far as formations and age, I have no idea. Hopefully the next few years of geology and geography classes will teach me.
The panoramic is alright - the seams are kinda messed up at one point. I've tried to redo the process but I can't produce anything better.
Where are you going this weekend? Post some pictures and put a hyperlink in here so my friends can see it.
I'll be photographing a wedding this weekend. It's my hope that afterwards I'll still be friends with the Bride and Groom. :)

It's spelled Cummins, not Cummings.
