Odd that as we witness the birth of a civil war in Iraq caused by feuding religious beliefs we seek here in the states to undo the separation of church and state. I posit that the separation of church and state is a joining factor for all respectable peoples in that it shows a respect to individual rights and respect for community. Anyone who denies this, American, Iraqi, other otherwise denies the rights of a fellow human. The discourse on this should have been completed 200 years ago with the founding of this nation, but I feel that we have forgotten this and we are becoming feral and superstitious.

I believe it was C.S. Lewis who wrote that Hell was the greatest compliment ever given man. In other words, God respects mankind enough to have given us free will: do what he says, get Heaven, do not do what he says, get Hell; but in the end its our choice. We aren't automatons. God doesn't force you to do what he wants. He lets you choose. You can follow His word, be an atheist, be a Muslim or whatever. Just something else to think about & contemplate.
