The Odyssey by Homer 2001/09/29 0 comments
Here are some things going on right now with me.
I'm writing a customer pamphlet for Computer Cafe where I work (and host my web page). I can no longer edit this with notepad, it's long, understand?
I'm reading The Odyssey by Homer, translated by... some dude that deserves to have me at least remember his name. This book's old, yeah, you're thinking, it is. Not like that, I mean this book was printed in the fifties and the paper is yellow. It's an excellent book, slow read, but cool.
Getting comfortable with my new home and job in Tullahoma. I moved from Sparta!!!!! <- Life goal accomplished!
Learning lots about computers of all kinds and in all areas.

This is written in the present, being 2006.

In every generation a moment or two will stand out in everyone's mind. This moment of time being so important to how the future will be written is forever preserved in our mind - A perfect snapshot.

The phone is ringing, it's 7am. It's Tuesday, and it's my day to sleep in. I can't avoid responcibility though. It's Misty's mother, she tells us that people are flying planes into buildings.
I'm sure that she's watching some action movie and is unable to distinguish it from reality. I'm justified to believe this. We sleep in.
I check my email and hit my favorite web pages. Fark, my dedicated homepage for years, is abuzz with the news.

America had changed.

Not having television Misty and I go to Computer Cafe and get on the T3 finding live news feeds from New York. From gnutella I started downloading the now familiar images of various amature videos of the attacks.
It was the greatest TV event ever. The world stopped, the only people still at work were the ones who had a TV there. I'm unsure of where the idea came from, but I was sure it was Osama Bin Laden. Everyone else at the time was saying it was Hussein.

My friends came down to see me that day, a preplanned event. Over delivered pizza we talked of the police state to come. The impending rocketing of gas prices. The impending righteous strike against the Taliban who had by this time all but admitted protecting the terrorists that committed this act of cowardice. We talked of the racism that was sure to pour across the land. None of us envisioned us going to Iraq. None of us forsaw this as a means for the Bush administration to seize power overseas of countries and oil reserves. Nor to give his friends contracts in rebuilding these countries.

America has changed.
