Many adventures were found on this trip to the Big South Fork. We did a great deal of driving, so much so that we discovered our license plate to be completely obscured (see picture 24). We discovered quite last minute that we had to have a permit to camp and we rushed all over to find it only to have a poor gas station employee take 15 minutes to fill it out as the sun was setting. We rushed onto the trail at Angel Rapids and pitched the tent. If it weren't for our headlamps (a great camping accessory) we never would have made it. Sometime during the night we were visited by a lost lady, and much later a large stomping warthog. The latter of which I chased off. Eratta: See if you can figure out why picture 12 amuses me.
The image tells the distance travelled (4.9 miles, then back again), and the topographic profile (high of 1696 ft, low of 1381 ft). Just to the east of where I turned back the slightly obscured X represents the Twin Arches - Charit Creek Loop (A hiking trail). The trail I primarily traveled down was a horse trail, and it being shortly after a rain was incredibly muddy. There was a lot of bogging down and pushing my way out. Both me and my bike are covered with mud. :)
Mike, Alec and I went into Lost Creek cave. They were good sports and did my lighting for me. I remember the cave as being much larger than it was. I guess that the full trip in and out was 1, maybe 1½ miles. I would rate this as an easy hike.
