The LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) mission is to assist each woman in affirming her relationship with God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
The start of a new year seems like a good time to update the congregation on the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Faith Lutheran Church. New members (as well as long time members) may not know who we are and what we do. We hope this newsletter will give all a better understanding of our organization. LWML is the official women's auxiliary of the Lutheran Church-Missouri synod. At its "mission heart" are thousands of volunteers who are daily dedicating their lives to making a difference in this world. It is women who are finding avenues to use their God-given talents as they meet the challenge to share the Gospel message. It unites women within the Missouri Synod, our local congregation and our community. We meet monthly in two circle groups, day and evening, and quarterly as a total organization. We strive to uphold the International LWML in Mission Education, Mission Inspiration and Mission Service with the following objectives: the nurturing of spiritual growth through Bible study, prayer and fellowship; by accepting in love, each member as a unique child of God involved in mission opportunities at home and abroad by using each member's talents to the fullest. We focus intently on these objectives. We support the ministry of Faith Lutheran Church through a variety of activities. Any woman who is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is interested in helping to fulfill the above listed objectives is eligible for Active Membership. Nonmembers are eligible to join as Honorary Members. Just attend on eof the circle meetings and ask to join us, and you will be most welcome. We plan fund raising activities as needed to carry out our mission work in accordance with our bylaws and those of our Mid-South District but other activities are also planned for fellowship and fun. monies raised during the year help to support mission activities as listed below. As responsible stewards we reserve enough funds to provide for any expenses during the year, including each year's fundraisers. Other needs within our church such as infant booster seats for use at our dinner functions, a new DVD/VCR for use throughout our church, items for the kitchen as needed, as well as for the nursery, etc. are some of the ways in which LWML funds are used. Activities planned for 2004 include a Mother-Daughter-Best Friend luncheon in May, a Rummage Sale in June, LWML Sunday/Honey Sunday in October, a bake sale at the Mall in October, the Spaghetti Supper and Bake Sale in November and a Christmas Party in December. Other activities include collecting and packing sewing, health, and school kits for the Care Caravan, and visits to nursing homes and assisted living centers throughout the year. Membership at present is 26, half of which are seniors. most of our younger members work outside the home but still find time to be active in our circles. We encourage ALL women of our congregation to join us and share in the outreach of our church while enjoying the fellowship and pleasure we derive from the study of the Word, and by working together on mission projects. Check your bulletins for times and places for meetings. We look forward to seeing you. Please join us. |
