East Tennessee District NYI Guidelines |
- Personal Appearance
The East Tennessee District NYI affirms that the appearance of
youth has a positive correlation with the development of
self-discipline and spiritual maturity. Christian simplicity
and modesty are biblical standards relevant to our youth. Common
sense and personal discretion are essential in matter of dress.
Therefore at all district events, the following guidelines will
be observed:
- Grubbies (threaded jeans, or jeans with holes) are not permitted.
- Shorts that are of appropriate (knee) length may be worn
to all activities except worship or chapel services. (This includes
NYI Convention, NWMS Convention, etc...)
- For women; mini-skirts, tight-fitting jeans, halter tops, spaghetti
straps, bare midriffs, bareless look, and any attire that shows
cleavage is inappropriate.
- For men, shirts must be worn at all times. Tank tops may be worn
only for physical education activities.
- The wearing of of any item of clothing or hats, bearing the
emblems or verbal messages which is in conflict with moral
standards of the Church of the Nazarene are not acceptable.
- Any exception to the above guidelins must have the approval of
the NYI Distict Council, District Superintendent, and the
District Advisory Board.
- Public Display of Affection
All young people must use Christian judgement and good taste in all
forms of public display of affection. Any misuse causes embarrassment
to others, reflects upon your character, and infringes on teh rights
of others.
- Other Standars
District NYI seeks to develop young people with responsible personal
behavior and self control, who have a sensitivity to the rights and
needs of others. Compliance with the following standards should be
normative for Nazarene Youth:
- No Alcohol, illegal or dangerous drugs are allowed in possession or use.
- Spray paint, paint ball guns, or paint balls are not allowed under any circumstances.
- Firearms, fireworks, or explosives are not allowed.
- Vulgar, foul, or profane language will not be tolerated.
- All use of tobacco products is prohibited.
- Pornographic materials, literature, or pictures will not be allowed under any circumstances.
- Disrutpive behavior which poses a threat to the well-being of another person will not be tolerated.
- Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. All adults and
sponsors, along with youth leaders are to be respected at all
times. Any instruction or direction given by them is to be heeded,
whether they are from your church or not.
- District NYI event are designed for involvement and participation.
Therefore, personal radios, jam boxes, walk-mans, tape players, etc...,
are not to be brought to any activity. They will be held by district
personnel until the activity is over.
- During district activities, no participant should leave the designated
areas or activities without knowledge and permission of a sponsor, leader,
or NYI District worker. Once you have left an event you will not be
permitted to return.
- Sponsors, Counselors, and Chaperons must be at least 25 years
of age to serve at any district event by the recommendation of the camp board.
THESE GUIDLINES ARE TO BE FOLLOWED DURING ALL DISTRICT NYI ACTIVITIES.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN THE FOLLOWING:
- Personal counsel with the local church leader.
- Call to the Pastor or Parent of the young person.
- Exclusion (sent home) from the remainder of the event.
** WITH NO REIMBURSEMENT IF THE ACTIVITY HAS A CHARGE TO IT.
- Elimination/exclusion from the activity or event for the remainder
of the year. (example: quizzing, talent, retreat, camp, etc.)
