Over a typical weekend, 20 or more sport fliers will be seen at the field,
only a few at one time. If you survey their models you will find some stand off scale
planes, a couple of 40-size trainers, an equal number of Lasers, Acros or similar
airplanes (2 and 4 stroke, generally below 1.2) with a sprinkling of giant scale and some
really serious contest level scale airplanes, along with a couple of Delta
Demons. Generally, there is someone in the air most of the weekend. With 4 marked
pilot stations, there is a "fly when you want" atmosphere which makes
power flying sociable and relaxing. A few members scratch build their models, but
most are built from kits and some ARF's. Adding to the laid back atmosphere of the
power fliers, are the two float flies and one or two ice cream socials per
year. The latter are fun flies where you fly what you bring and all who attend
bring churns filled with home made ice cream, while others bring cookies, cakes or
pastry.
Of course, if you are a serious giant scale flier, the club puts on a giant scale fun fly
which occurs the latter part of September each year.
The flying facility consists of a macadam runway, a grass runway, 4 taxi ramps with
6 x 8 run up areas at the beginning of each ramp and there are 6 work
tables adjacent to the runways. Also for the convenience of the fliers, families or
guests, there are two shelters and from May through October there is a restroom available.
