The Family of
John Haynes

John Haynes was born in Maryland about 1754. Around 1773, he moved to Bute County, North Carolina. His first marriage was in 1773 in Bute County but it is not known to whom he was married. However, from this marriage came seven children. They are listed as follows:

John was a Private CL in the Revolutionary War (North Carolina Roster #1810) serving under Armstrong's Company, First Regiment from Warren County, North Carolina. He served 30 months and was granted 228 acres (lying and being in Davidson lying on the waters of Mill Creek) for his service. He was discharged in June 1778.

After the death of John's first wife (after 1810 in Sampson County, North Carolina), he married Susannah Creel in 1812 in Sampson County, North Carolina. From this union came five children.

John later purchased another 150 acres from Robert Warren for forty-five pounds, in hand paid, for "land lying in Duplin County on the north side of Goshen Swamp and the plantation which he (John) lived, beginning at a light wood stick and his upper line on the roadside and so up his line grant-Haines branch down said branch to Nathanial Killard's line to the road-date April 19, 1778. He received another grant from the State on March 10, 1800 for 130 acres of land in Sampson County, North Carolina on the Head of Goshen near his own land between M. C. Cullen's and Robert Wallis' lands.

All of the first set of children came to Rutherford County, Tennessee. Charles Haynes settled in Kentucky but died in Arkansas. Everett and his wife Mary Jane moved to Arkansas where he farmed and died. Ivy John Creel came to Rutherford County, Tennessee as well and had a merchandising store.
John died January 17, 1825 in Sampson County, North Carolina. Deed Book 26, Page 403 of Sampson County, North Carolina (Clinton) shows the second set of heirs (children of John and Susannah Creel Haynes) as heirs to Susannah's half of the John Haynes property.
