The Family of
John Haynes, Jr.
John Haynes, Jr. was the first born child of John Haynes of Maryland (mother's name us unknown). He was born in 1775 in either Bute County or Warren County, North Carolina. John married Minerva A. Quimby about 1795 in Warren, Duplin or Sampson County, North Carolina. Minerva was born about 1774 in North Carolina and died between 1850-1858 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. John and Minerva had seven children. They are as follows:
John was a planter by occupation. He owned a plantation about 2 miles from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He bought part of his father's grant of 228 acres in Davidson County, North Carolina (later Tennessee) and moved to this farm soon after 1800. He bought an additional 50 acres from John McCoy and the court ordered it registered on Tuesday-January 06, 1807-Page 224, Minute Book A of Rutherford County, Tennessee Minutes. The 1850 Census of Rutherford County indicates that John was 75 and his wife Minerva was 76. Minerva died between 1850-1858 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. One family record indicated that she may have been buried in the Beesley Church Cemetery in Rutherford County; however, no record has been found that includes her name and there is no marker.
John died in July 1864 in Rutherford County, Tennessee and was buried on the family farm. His will was made in Rutherford County, Tennessee on August 01, 1858 and his wife was not mentioned in his will. His son Everett presented the will for probate on August 01, 1864. The will was signed August 07, 1858 and proved August 01, 1864. The family farm is now owned by Kenneth Webb Haynes of Murfreesboro (a 3rd great-grandson of John Haynes, Jr.).
