Catholic Holy Days of Obligation
Six holy days of obligation exist in the United States:
| January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (when it falls on a Saturday or Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is relaxed) | |
| Solemnity of the Ascension (always is celebrated on the Seventh Sunday of Easter) | |
| August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption (when it falls on a Saturday or Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is relaxed) | |
| November 1, the Solemnity of the All Saints (when it falls on a Saturday or Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is relaxed) | |
| December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (when it falls on a Sunday, its celebration is always transferred to the following Monday and the obligation to attend Mass is relaxed; when it falls on any other day, the obligation of Mass attendance remains) | |
| December 25, the Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ (always celebrated with obligation to attend Mass) |
